Srila Prabhupada’s lecture leading off this issue deals with a theme he stressed over and over again: the need to take our human life seriously. We are all spiritual beings, now caught up in matter. Only human life affords us the chance to awaken our innate love for Krishna and leave this world of suffering to return to Him in His eternal home.

Covered by the material energy, we have forgotten our relationship with Krishna, who is our source and our eternal friend. We can awaken our love for Him through the practice of bhakti-yoga. In “The Tastiest Spice Is Love,” Arcana Siddhi Devi Dasi shows how easy it can be to please Krishna and receive reciprocation from Him. Bhakti-yoga begins with learning about Krishna, and in “Looking into the Structure of the Bhagavad-gita,” Ishvara Krishna Dasa helps us get a perspective on Krishna’s teachings.

One aspect of Krishna that may be problematic for newcomers is His animal incarnations. In “Lord Kurma and the Battle for Ambrosia,” Aja Govinda Dasa gives us some insight into the Lord’s pastime of accepting the form of a tortoise. Dvija-mani Dasa tells us about a book that can inspire love for Krishna while teaching Sanskrit grammar.

Hare Krishna.—Nagaraja Dasa, Editor
